Opportunity to take part in 2-day field-recording workshop, exploring the territory of the Bath Abbey bells
As part of the ICIA’s spring programme, Liminal will be running a 2-day workshop for 8 participants who will learn the skills of field-recording to enable them to realise a version of Of This Parish with Bath Abbey’s bells. The workshop will be lead by sound artist/composer David Prior and architect Frances Crow. The culmination of the workshop will be the recording of four walks made simultaneously by four pairs of synchronized sound recordists, all starting from the central location of Bath Abbey with its bells ringing. As participants in this workshop you will acquire the skills necessary to carry out the field recordings for Of This Parish at Bath Abbey as well as supplementary knowledge in the art of listening, phonographies and how bells define communities. No previous experience is necessary and all equipment will be provided.
The final recordings will form an 8-channel sound installation – Of This Parish: Bath Abbey – which will collapse the acoustic territory of the Bath Abbey bells into a single listening space and be open for one week in the Stables of the American Museum from 5 - 12 April. Launch event: 4 April from 4-6pm
