TodaysArt: Bright Collisions

Framing Listening and the Phonosphere, a talk by Frances Crow will be presented at the TodaysArt Festival in den Hague on Wednesday 24 September 2014

Framing Listening and the Phonosphere, will show examples from Liminal’s projects including, Organ of Corti and Of This Parish that expand on the title theme. The talk is part of the Ubiquitous Sound panel of the Bright Collisions Summit on Wednesday 24 September 2014.  The summit sits within the TodaysArt 2014 festival.

Organ of Corti is an experimental instrument that recycles noise from the environment, it does not make any sound of its own, but draws attention to sounds already present by framing them in a new way. Of This Parish takes as its starting point the idea of ‘parish’ as a phonosphere; a territory defined by the earshot of a bell. By means of a series of soundwalks, an art-documentary film and an architectural form, both projects enable us to consider the wider issues of sound in contemporary society.

Liminal’s film Of This Parish will be screened as part of the TodaysArt Festival programme on:
