Another Poisonous Sunset is a simulated musical performance. Eight improvising musicians were recorded playing a variety of instruments, each in a different space and at different times. From these recordings, a musical collage was constructed which, is presented to the listener by means of 8 pairs of loudspeakers. Each pair represents an absent performer playing a hyper-real (hyper edited) version of their real selves. The audience are invited to walk between the ghostly presence of the players who appear to be at once ‘better than the real thing’, and entirely absent.
Another Poisonous Sunset was created at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Alberta, Canada and the University of Birmingham and commissioned by the Stoke Newington Festival, London 1999.
