Potted Histories (1998)

Potted Histories was an invitation to listen to the often overlooked and the overheard aspects of an allotment site. For the duration of the installation, a potting shed was used as the venue for a poetic documentary on the lives of both the plants and those who nurture them. Installed in the shed, a bakelite radio played interviews with allotment tenants while the use of specially designed microphones and triggering technology enabled visitors to ‘hear’ the sounds of plants growing.

Potted Histories was commissioned by Bloom 1998, funded by the Arts Council and sponsored by Vivid Communications, Birmingham.
