Organ of Corti will be part of the Lake District Summer Music Festival from Saturday 9th July - Sunday 10th July
Saturday 9th July - Sunday 10th July: Lake District Summer Music Festival, Lay-by on A685, overlooking M6. (Book Here)
Imagined and built by liminal, comprising architect Frances Crow and sound artist and composer David Prior, Organ of Corti is being brought to Cumbria on Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 July through a partnership with the PRS for Music Foundation, Arts Council, LDSM, VistaProjects, Friends of the Lake District and Westmorland Services Ltd.
Overlooking the Tebay Gorge, from a lay-by on the A685, Organ of Corti recycles the sounds of the award-winning stretch of M6 motorway which is destined to become the new interface between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. Attendance is free, but must be booked in advance through Lake District Summer Music as access to the site is limited. A Park & Ride scheme will be in operation over the weekend. Coaches depart every 30 minutes and audiences will spend about 45 minutes at the installation.
Although free, pre-booking is essential as access to the site will be restricted. A park & ride scheme will be in operation from Westmorland Hotel on Saturday and St James' Church, Tebay on Sunday. Specific timeslots are available from 9am every 30 minutes until the last departure at 4.30pm. Audiences will spend about 45mins with Organ of Corti. For directions to park and ride for Saturday see Westmorland Hotel and on Sunday see St James' Church on the Organ of Corti map.
