Liminal are Still Walking on 30 March 2012 as part of the Birmingham Still Walking Festival

David will lead participants on a walk, listening to the varied soundscapes in the Digbeth area, using a number of listening exercises. The walk will start in the Bullring shopping centre and meander through the area around Fazeley Street.

On the walk we will explore various listening techniques; some derived from the ‘ear cleaning’ exercises developed by R. Murray Schafer, published in his book of the same name, while others we have devised from previous walks. We think of these exercises as ‘listening aids’, functioning as they do as means by which we might listen reflexively, concentrating our attention on the limits of what can be perceived, recognized and remembered.

Liminal worked in this area during their Warwick Bar Masterplan project. A pre-recorded soundwalk called Warwick Bar Soundwalk is available for download as a result of that project. Available through Public Art Online.
